Project Location:
The project is implemented in the Mwanza Region, specifically in:
Nyamagana District (Buhongwa and Mhandu wards) Ilemela District (Buzuruga and Kisessa wards)
Target Beneficiaries:
1. Adolescent Girls (10–24 years)
2. Young Women (24–35 years)
Project Overview:
This project aims to strengthen support systems for adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) by equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to raise their voices and actively participate in addressing gender-based challenges within their communities.
The initiative focuses on empowering AGYW to understand and embrace their rights, amplify their voices, and engage in feminist movements and activism. It also enhances their capacity to combat gender-based violence (GBV), sexual corruption, sextortion, and child trafficking at multiple levels—from community to national platforms.
Main Objective:
To strengthen support services for adolescent girls and young women by equipping them with skills, raising awareness, and empowering them to advocate for their rights, amplify their voices, and actively fight against gender-based violence, sexual corruption, sextortion, and child trafficking.
Specific Objectives:
1. Increase AGYW Voices:
Strengthen the voices of adolescent girls and young women against GBV, sexual corruption, and sextortion by engaging 100 members from four ward-based girls’ groups.
2. Strengthen Community Systems:
Build the capacity of community members, municipal authorities, and women and child protection committees (including gender police desks) and strengthen collaboration with GBV frontline actors in the region.
3. Enhance Awareness and Support Services:
Mobilize and raise awareness among AGYW in the four wards, while also supporting the identification and reintegration of girls affected by child trafficking.
Key Activities:
a. Strengthening partnerships to amplify AGYW voices against GBV, sexual corruption, and sextortion
b. Supporting AGYW-led initiatives, movements, and grassroots activism strategies
c. Promoting the use of digital platforms and media for advocacy and communication
d. Conducting monitoring, mentorship, and follow-up activities to ensure impact and sustainability
