BLOOM Project: Community Dialogues on Gender Norms and Decision-Making

KIWOHEDE, in collaboration with World Vision Tanzania and Local Government Authorities (LGAs) through the BLOOM Project, continued conducting community dialogues in Buza, Kigogo, and Mbagala Kuu Wards within Temeke and Kinondoni Municipal Councils, Dar es Salaam.

The dialogues aimed to challenge discriminatory gender norms and promote positive, equitable attitudes, behaviours, and practices within communities. The sessions focused on the theme “Perspectives on Female- and Male-Dominated Roles and the Participation of Girls, Women, and Youth in Decision-Making.”

The dialogues employed a participatory drama group approach, where community drama groups presented short scenarios depicting common gender-related challenges experienced within communities. Following each performance, the moderator, known as the “Joker,” facilitated an interactive discussion by engaging the audience with questions that encouraged participants to reflect on the issues presented, share their experiences, and explore possible solutions.

The sessions provided a safe and participatory platform for community members to reflect, learn, and engage in meaningful dialogue on gender equality. They also encouraged collective action towards transforming harmful social norms and promoting more positive, inclusive, and gender-equitable practices, particularly in relation to the participation of girls, women, and youth in decision-making processes.
